Abstract

The purpose of my practicum studies this semester was to choose several topics that General Chemistry I and II (CHE 111 and CHE 112) students may struggle with, and to break down these topics to more descriptive and more easily digested lessons that students may understand and retain better. Here in this poster, we present one of these topics, Three Laws of Thermodynamics. Usually students entering a CHE 111 or 112 class have the concept and basic knowledge of the various forms of energy. However, it is in General Chemistry classes that students may, for the first time, thoroughly encounter the concepts and quantitative studies of thermodynamics such as entropy, enthalpy, as well as the important definitions of the system and the surroundings.

These lessons are recorded for online or other electronic delivery purposes. The Inclusion of the lessons alongside the CHE 111 and 112 lecture will help decrease the difficulty threshold for students’ learning and help them to understand these concepts in thermodynamics better. These electronic lessons will not only help students in learning challenging chemistry topics, but also it can help students build their confidence in future science courses.
