Abstract
Eastern Kentucky University Honors Program annually offers a course entitled “Sidewalk U” which enables students to transcend traditional educational boundaries, gaining knowledge on various pertinent issues that are vital to the area. We were able to attend the spring semester course, which took place in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. In the Lowcountry, we were able to devote our weeks’ time to studying “Inequality and American Society.” We will discuss our own experiences, such as our discoveries when we conducted a City as Text© or our interactions with the Gullah/Geechee and Migrant worker communities, as well as why we feel that these course would benefit programs across the nation.
