Abstract
Shoulder dystocia is a rare obstetric emergency that can lead to severe maternal and neonatal complications. Obstetric nurses play a critical role in assisting in the specific nursing interventions that aid in the safe delivery of shoulder dystocia emergencies. However, due to this low-volume, high-risk occurrence many nurses lack the confidence and competence required during this obstetric emergency. High-fidelity simulation training can mimic a real-life shoulder dystocia emergency without any risk factors. High-fidelity simulation can allow nurses to practice the critical nursing interventions that are required to safely deliver the infant in a safe risk-free environment. This Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) Project revealed statistical significance in increasing nursing confidence in managing shoulder dystocia emergencies using a high-fidelity shoulder dystocia simulation training program.
