Abstract
The purpose of this meta-analysis was to investigate the effect of transformational leadership on job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Using PsychINFO and Business Source Premier, we located 27 studies that met our inclusion criteria. Our findings show 1) a strong relationship between transformational leadership and job satisfaction and 2) a moderate relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment. In addition, we found that transformational leadership had a moderately stronger effect on job satisfaction in the studies conducted outside of US and a small effect on organizational commitment. However, the effect was opposite for studies conducted in the US. Based on our findings, we recommend application of transformational leadership with a stronger focus on organizational commitment for organizations located in the US and a stronger focus on job satisfaction for organizations located outside the US.
