In the year 1054, Europeans were at war over religious matters and the great schism between Rome and Constantinople was in full swing. Chinese astronomers, on the other hand, found a new bright star, so bright as to be visible during the day. It was a Supernova Explosion, and the remnant of that explosion is known today as the Crab Nebula (Why crab? Early observers thought it resembled a crab.).
