The research we conducted was about the Kentucky Reptile Zoo. The Reptile zoo houses many kinds of reptiles, including snakes, lizards and even a crocodile. The zoo opens its exhibits to the public during the day and by appointment during the winter. They also invite the visitors to watch the venom of the snakes being extracted at specific times throughout the day. The Reptile Zoo also educates the public on the animals, and how useful their venom can be. They work directly with educators and law enforcement to educate about how to deal with the animals in the wild. The Zoo also provides the venom from certain snakes for the development of anti-venom which has gone to save many lives. They are a non-profit organization dedicated to the animals. The topic of the research will be the economic impact of small businesses like the reptile zoo, and how the contributions of these business helps the public. The reptile zoo contributes to the areas around it, by helping develop anti-venom, we will look for other examples of these contributions from other similar businesses. This subject is important because if we can measure the impact, outside of direct finances, then we can decipher just how important these businesses are to the communities they belong to. Without these businesses contributing what they do as a non-profit, it would cost the counties much more money to develop and research things such as anti-venom and other services such as this.
