The primary mission of the College of Arts and Sciences is to equip students with the intellectual skills, knowledge, and tools that will enable them to compete successfully in a complex, diverse, and rapidly changing world. To achieve this mission, students, faculty, and staff work collaboratively through a series of programs, activities, and experiences that are guided by the unifying principles of learning, discovery, and community.
Academic programs in the college, covering the creative and performing arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics and natural sciences, are student-centered and directed at preparing graduates for life-long learning which is essential in our technologically sophisticated society. Primarily, this student-centered learning is guided by comprehensive and up-to-date programs of study delivered through high quality classroom and web-based instruction by talented and caring faculty members. In addition to classroom instruction, students participate in a number of other learning experiences including cooperative education and internships, distance education, working on faculty directed research projects, and study abroad programs.
