Abstract

Holler If You Need Me by Lori Singleton is a collection of non-fiction flash essays that collectively piece together Singleton’s childhood in the Appalachia region. Singleton uses underlying themes such as poverty, a broken family, and natural disaster to create certain dynamics between the main characters that resonate within the reader’s mind. This memoir piece strives to shed light on the understanding that comes throughout both childhood and early adult years when it comes to the topic of dysfunction.
