Abstract
Critical reading is an expectation of students in all academic programs. A common concern and assumption of undergraduate faculty is students are not reading assigned preparatory materials prior to class. A primary question is whether students are electing not to read or if they do not have the skills to read critically beyond mining for facts. This is problematic as faculty expects students to be prepared to discuss readings in class and apply concepts in classroom activities.
