Abstract
Animal manure and fertilizer release phosphorous (P)-containing compounds to natural waters, which degrade water quality and foster eutrophication. Eastern Kentucky University's Meadowbrook Farm actively raises both crop and livestock; these sources contribute phosphorous to the Muddy Creek watershed. The focus of this project was: 1) to develop and refine a lab procedure to efficiently and actively measure total phosphorous; 2) to measure the amount of total phosphorous in water samples taken from farm waters and Muddy Creek watershed.
