Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to inform those wishing to know more about the drug known as “bath salts”. The information presented is relevant to both science professionals as well as non-science driven people. As these drugs continue to rise in popularity, it is important to understand what to expect when it comes to these drugs to protect oneself and those around them. The information covered within this thesis include: defining a synthetic drug, a look at the Khat Plant and a look at three Synthetic cathinones. These three are MDPV, methylone and mephedrone. There will also be explanations into the first appearances of bath salts, how they received their name, the signs and symptoms associated with these drugs, how the drugs are used and the brain chemistry involved. There is also a focus on the legal issues surrounding these drugs as well as a look at why they have risen in popularity so quickly. This paper highlights the key points within each of these categories to help educate those wishing to learn more about the drug known as bath salts.
