Abstract
This honors thesis was written to explore the idea that applying a fitness mindset to horn playing will give the player increased strength and endurance. Through exploring historical treatises, modern pedagogical sources, numerous scores and etudes, and most importantly, interviews with both professional horn players and personal trainers, I have found that applying these ideas have an extremely positive effect on both endurance and strength in the high register of the horn. It is my hope that through this research, not only can I dispel a few myths about horn playing in general, but also allow many horn students to have an easier experience playing some of the great solos and orchestral works.
