Abstract
The purpose of this honors thesis is to extend and correct the work of Dr. Bart Ehrman in a chapter of his book, How Jesus Became God. The chapter in question is entitled “Did Jesus Claim to be God?” The undergraduate research for this thesis corrects and evaluates the arguments extended by Ehrman to see if they line up with the evidence available to answer the question of Jesus’ self-understanding. Four main arguments of Ehrman's that are addressed in this thesis have to do with: the sources available that give us information about Jesus’ life, the methods used to evaluate these sources, the historical context of Jesus, and the answer to Jesus’ self-understanding.
