Abstract
Factors which influence police use of force policy and execution were researched to address the constant criticism of excessive use of force. The identification of those factors through literature reviews was then compared to high-profile cases in recent history which police were criticized for their use of force. Using the assessments of the literature along with case study analyses ultimately yielded a list of recommendations that law enforcement departments should consider to improve use of force policy and implementation.
