Abstract

Progressive Rock was popular in the 1970s and has made lasting effects on music. It is musically complex and unique since it uses rock elements and instrumentation to compose quasi-classical works. Moreover, the lyrics of Progressive Rock often discuss controversial issues and confront injustices in society, making this genre very beneficial to society and its listeners. It can be used to teach social theory and generally help people become more active citizens who question societal establishments. Making an original EP (extended play) with these progressive techniques in mind will have a similar benefit on the people who listen to it today.
