Abstract
Freshwater mussels are one of the most at-risk species in North America, with proper identification of those imperiled species of great importance for conservation efforts. Through DNA barcoding, this is possible. In this experiment, the Oxford Nanopore MinION sequencer will be used to sequence a partial mitochondrial genome from Potamilus alatus, using the data to identify important nuclear genes within Unionidae.
