Abstract
During a time when social and humanitarian issues are at the forefront of our culture’s concerns, designers must ask themselves what role they have to play. Immediate solutions include donations of food, money and supplies; however designers have the opportunity to offer solutions that cannot only rebuild a community but its people as well. Where there are limited resources and design expertise, creative thinkers can provide innovative solutions. Innovative design solutions can help humanity take a step forward and designers should see this need as their social responsibility to help. There are a number of different organizations and groups that are taking part in this movement and hundreds of solutions and structures have been imagined, created, implemented and have been successful. The call for innovative solutions goes out to designers who are willing to use their unique skill sets to improve humanity.
