Abstract

This report explores the realities of and causes of the issues that many people face in Central Appalachia while they are seeking healthcare in the current climate of the region and socioeconomic challenges that are facing the region today including recent events such as the July 2022 flooding. It also explores the history of healthcare in the region and the historical context which has led to these issues that are still being experienced in the region today and steps that have been taken to improve the situation as well as further steps that can be taken to improve patient outcomes and retain providers in the region.
