Abstract

ELA educators situate the relevancy of disciplinary content, while facing sociopolitical narratives that often challenge those contributions. “Making Investments Transparent” frames pre-service teachers’ reflections within an approach to English Education that illumines investments in students—a methodology applicable to students entering professional careers across disciplines.

Author Biography

Heather Fox is an Assistant Professor of English at Eastern Kentucky University, where she teaches courses in English and Women & Gender Studies. Her research engages English Education and American women’s literature. Current projects include a collaborative article on archival recovery as pedagogy and a monograph under contract with the University of Mississippi Press.

Brianna Parsons teaches at Saint Nicholas Academy in Louisville, Kentucky.

Alesha Alexander is a secondary English teacher at Madison Southern High School in Berea, Kentucky.

Sarah King, a recent Eastern Kentucky University graduate, works for the Clark County Public Library. She accepted a long-term substitute teaching position for Madison County Public Schools in Spring 2020.

Cole Burgin teaches English I and the school newspaper course at Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington, Kentucky.

Kristine Wertz completed her student teaching in English and theatre with Fayette County Public Schools in Fall 2019.
