The Department of Special Education offers undergraduate degree programs in Communication Disorders, Learning and Behavior Disorders, Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education. Undergraduate degree programs in Learning and Behavior Disorders and Education of the Deaf and Hard Hearing lead to dual certification with students earning teaching certification in their area of special education and in regular education (elementary or middle grades with an emphasis area). The undergraduate degree program in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education prepares students to work with children ages birth through five in early intervention programs, preschool, and kindergarten.

At the graduate level, we offer a variety of master degree programs including the Master of Arts degree in Communication Disorders; the Master of Arts degree (Teacher Leader) with advanced study in Learning and Behavior Disorders, Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education; the Master of Arts degree (Teacher Leader) with additional certification in Learning and Behavior Disorders, Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education; and the Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education. In addition, the department offers graduate certification programs in Learning and Behavior Disorders, Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education, Moderate and Severe Disabilities, and Director of Special Education as well as Rank I planned programs.
