Abstract
As we all know smoking cigarettes has many health risks associated with it. Tobacco smoking is the most preventable cause of death among women. In fact, heart disease is the number one killer of American women, and lung cancer is a close second. Both are linked to smoking. In 2015, over 17% of adult women in the United States are current smokers. Even though 70% of smokers have a desire to quit the habit, only about 40% will actually succeed. There are many methods to help you kick the habit, but many people have found that the practice of yoga very successful.
Exercise can be used as an aid to quit smoking because it helps you to feel better mentally and physically. Yoga in particular uses deep regulation of breathing techniques and a focused attention that may lessen stress factors and may improve a person’s chances of quitting. Through the practice of yoga Therapeutic Recreationalists can help a client develop a higher sense of determination and willpower, which are considerable strengths to aid in the cessation of smoking. When people start smoking they are often plagued by emotional and psychological problems, yoga is a technique that helps balance a person. Also, Therapeutic Recreationalists can teach the deep breathing of yoga help to stop the cravings of cigarettes and can be a weapon in the fight against the weight gain associated with nicotine addiction. Women who participate in yoga programs to quit smoking will be more successful in their quest for quitting.
