Abstract
Economic impact studies examine the effects of expenditures that occur as a result of a particular event or activity. They are not a study of profitability or income gained by event or activity being studied. Using data collected by the Army Corps of Engineers in 2015, the research team conducted a preliminary economic impact study of Kendall Campground overnight camping visitors. The Army Corps of Engineers collected data from overnight campers at Kendall Campground in 2015. Their survey included common economic impact questions examining expenditures in park entry fees, food and beverage purchases, bar and entertainment expenditures, retail purchases, lodging, and auto expenses. The survey generated 95 usable responses from individuals staying in the campground for more than 24 hours. This is a low response rate for the estimated population (14,317 overnight campers per year). As such, this report should be treated as a preliminary study. Kendall Campground attracts an estimated 14,317 overnight campers per year. Based on the economic impact estimates, the research team finds, Kendall Campground attracts a preliminary estimate of $437,670 in economic activity to Russell County each year and Kendall Campground added a preliminary estimate of $133,867 in value to the Russell County economy.
