Abstract
Non-Profit agencies can be a very valuable part of a community. However, hiring and retaining part time employees can be a very time consuming as well as financially draining for the organization. The organization often recruits, hires and trains part time employees, only to have them quit after a short time. It is important that the organization knows what type of employee that they want to hire and recruit accordingly.
One problem is the pool of employees. These organizations often draw from high school students, college students, stay at home moms, working professionals that need a second job, and retirees. The needs and abilities of these groups vary greatly. In addition to abilities, what satisfies them varies. Their work ethic can be quite different. It is the job of the non-profit to address these needs and to accommodate as many as possible, while satisfying the needs of the organization.
Surveying the part time employees will give the organization a better understanding of areas where they are performing well and areas that they need to concentrate on in order to have better engaged employees. The employees need to feel that their answers to the surveys will be read and heard. In this way, the organization can do a better job at retaining their part time staff. This will create better employee satisfaction and well as a cost savings for the organization. The date from the survey will be collected and presented to the Human Resources Director. Decisions will then be made as to what changes can be made now to increase employee engagement and what needs to be planned for upcoming years.
