Abstract

In Fall 2016, the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity launched DECK (Developing Excellence in Consultant Knowledge), an innovative, multimodal, online training system for consultants. The system is designed to promote scale-based learning modeled after Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy. Over the past several semesters, the Professional Development Student Coordinator and the Professional Development Committee have continually adapted the system to address concerns and provide proactive adjustments to ensure the effective continuing education of consultants.

The main proactive revision is the proposed addition of training binders, a physical complement to the online training system to allow consultants more flexibility in their learning. The Noel Studio Professional Development Student Coordinator and Committee utilized hands-on learning to focus on establishing personalized content based on chosen needs of consultants. The personalized framework correlates with the activities and modules designed for in-person training, yet allows for a flipped classroom experience on a more personalized level of learning. The continuous training allows time for individual reflection of the consultation process and training experience while providing guidance through resources and materials that fit the needs of each consultant. These training binders are still in the pilot phase and are anticipated to roll out for the entire staff in the Fall of 2018.

This research poster details both the progress of the system and the modifications that have been made, specifically the proposed addition of consultant training binders and how their introduction would impact the training and learning of consultants in the Noel Studio.
