Abstract
There has been a gap in research that studies the correlation between relationship quality and a person’s satisfaction with their body. This current analysis is seeking to answer the question "How strongly related are romantic relationship quality and body self-esteem?" This meta-analysis searched PsycInfo and collected 14 studies based in Western cultures such as Western European countries and the United States that researched romantic or intimate relationships and a person’s body satisfaction or body image. We coded for age, gender, and location. From these studies, the results suggested a weak positive correlation (r = .16) between the variables. Two of our moderator variables showed no effect, but our age moderator showed the older the participants were, the stronger the correlation was. The more someone is satisfied with their partner, the more likely they are to be happier with their body and have less concerns with their self-esteem.
