Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 first originated late December 2019 in Wuhan, China at the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, where not only has China been largely impacted by the epidemic but has caused major concern globally over the months to follow. As the virus spread over different regions of Asia and Europe, the territory of the virus made its way overseas to America and developed into an ongoing, global pandemic. As the months have passed and the cases of those affected by the virus have increased, so has the research on the virus that has helped researchers and the general public in the fight and control of COVID-19. This literature review seeks to highlight the critical factors of SARS-CoV-2 through research that has been developed over the months following the outbreak in Wuhan in December 2019. Topics of the review include the origin, evolution, and history of SARS-CoV-2, the molecular virology, and mechanisms behind the virus, how SARS-CoV-2 affects the body, the relations the virus has to SARS and MERS, and the vague future that SARS-CoV-2 has for the world so far. As the cases of SARS-CoV-2 increased over time, so did the amount of research over time in order to find an answer to questions around the world, and this literature helps to focus some of that research into one. By filtering and condensing this information into one literature review, unanswered questions of the general public will help to be answered and help ease the minds of those anxiously waiting for what the future holds after SARS-CoV2.
