Abstract
By 2030 the number of senior adults (age > 65 years) will be staggering, and senior adults are expected to represent one out of every five individuals. Over the next two decades the United States census bureau projects that majority of our population will be senior adults. As our senior adults grow in numbers, it is essential to offer and promote involvement in outdoor recreational programming. There is also a key to offering intergenerational programming. This research will explore the need for and importance of senior adults’ role in intergenerational programming, specifically within outdoor recreation and the benefits of their participation. The research will also highlight examples of outdoor intergenerational programming and best practices moving forward.
