Abstract
In this project, a method was developed to determine the morphological characteristics of soft contact lenses which would provide valuable information if examined in some cases. The main problem addressed is that there is currently no standard protocol for examining contact lenses in a forensic lab. Our research aim is to determine the physical characteristics that can be identified from soft contact lenses. To date, very little has been published on soft contact lens exams because soft contact lenses are not a common type of evidence examined in forensic labs. During this project soft contact lenses were examined and measured. We determined the overall diameter, thickness (outer edge and center of the lens), and polymer type. Future work will focus on development of a method for discriminating between the prescription or the type of lens. The key impact of this research would be to developing part of a forensic examination method for soft contact lenses.
