Abstract

Many studies have looked at the connection between different self-construals and the individual’s overall well-being. People define themselves in many different ways. The four types of self-construals that are found in this study are independent, interdependent, relational, and physical. There are 5 sets of questionnaires, one for independent/interdependent, one for relational, one for physical, one for well-being, and an open response for distress. We hope to find in the analysis, a positive association between the self-construal and their coping styles along with high levels of both of them with high levels of well-being. We hypothesize that there will be a positive association between the self-construals and their corresponding coping styles as well as an interaction between high levels of well-being and them. If the hypotheses are proven, then we will be able to make a probable measure for the self construals and find the most effective coping mechanism for an individual.
