Abstract
This research draws upon the structures and processes utilized by a public university and explores the institution’s role in fostering the civic responsibility of its students. Included is a history and review of service forms and the role of volunteerism in the culture of higher education. The purpose of this particular study is to link the community service experience of a student to his or her motivations for participating. These findings elaborate the individualistic, social, and altruistic motivations of service project participants and correlate those to the levels of satisfaction that they identify.
