Abstract
This essay discusses the differences between Christian and Roman thought during the Roman Empire. The Roman pagan practices of infanticide, mistreatment towards women, and slavery demonstrate the moral depravity of the Empire. However, Christianity introduced into history certain ideas about the dignity of human beings that had not been a part of pre-Christian thought.
