Abstract
My grandfather, Eric George Laker, was captured at the Battle of El Alamein, North Africa, on October 27, 1942. He was held in a succession of prisoner of war camps across central Europe before the war ended in 1945. For the duration of his captivity he kept a diary, which he titled “Summary of Events: From 27th October 1942 to 24th May 1945.” At the time of his capture, he was 22 years old.
