Abstract
Drugs affect individuals in a wide variety of ways. Our current meta-analysis focuses on drug use and the effect it has on memory. We located 20 empirical research studies which addressed our research question. These studies examined how several different types of drugs make an impact on one’s cognitive abilities regarding memory. We focused on the uses of nicotine, caffeine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, prescription medications, cannabis, alcohol, and polydrugs. We also looked at how different types of memory (long-term, short-term, and working memory) were affected by these drugs throughout our analysis. We formed a weighted average of effect sizes from each study in order to determine how much these types of drugs actually impact memory ability.
