Abstract

One of the most common, yet under diagnosed personality disorders is Borderline Personality Disorder. It is commonly found in women and individuals between adolescence and young adulthood. The typical symptoms are fear of abandonment, unclear or shifting self-image, impulsive or self-destructive behaviors, extreme emotional swings, and unstable relationships. This study seeks to evaluate these unstable relationships and their future repercussions. A common finding amongst individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder is enhanced memory for negative emotional memory. This study will examine the influence of BPD on memory of past relationships and memory of negative traits shown inside of relationships. In doing this, a developed understanding can be made about this disorder and the individuals who struggle with relationships because of it. Although individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder cannot be used in studies of this scope, the number of symptoms a participant has associated with it (according to the MSI-BPD) can be used as a predictor for the influences of these behaviors. Data collection is complete, and my poster presentation will include results and discussion.
